Introduction

The Six of Swords is a card of transition, movement, and leaving something behind.

It often appears when a difficult phase is being left — not necessarily because everything has been resolved, but because it has been understood enough to move on from.

This card is not about dramatic endings.

It is about:

  • quiet decisions
  • gradual distance
  • and choosing a calmer path over a familiar but difficult one

It can feel like relief.

It can also feel like loss.

In these exercises, you’ll work with situations where your client is already in motion — emotionally, mentally, or physically — even if they’re not fully aware of it yet.

Your role as a reader is to help them understand:
👉 what they are moving away from
👉 what they are moving toward
👉 and why this transition matters

Exercise 1

📝 Fictional client email:

Hi,

I’ve noticed something changing in me, and I’m not sure what to make of it.

There’s a situation I used to be very emotionally involved in. I thought about it constantly, tried to understand it, tried to fix it, tried to hold onto it.

But lately… I feel different.

It’s not that everything is suddenly okay. It’s more like I don’t feel pulled into it the same way anymore.

I still think about it sometimes, but there’s distance now. Like I’m observing it instead of being inside it.

Part of me feels relieved. Another part of me feels guilty, like I’m giving up too easily or letting something go that I once cared about deeply. I don’t know if this means I’m healing… or if I’m just shutting down.

So I guess my question is: what is actually happening here?

– Mira

💬 Let’s look at what’s happening here:

Mira is not stuck.

She’s already moving.

The Six of Swords often appears when someone has crossed an internal threshold:
👉 not fully “over it”
👉 but no longer fully inside it either

As a reader, your role is to help her understand:
👉 that this distance is not detachment in a negative sense
👉 but part of a natural transition

🎯 Your Exercise:

For this reading, you draw The Six of Swords.

Write your response to Mira as if you were answering her professionally.

  • Acknowledge the shift she’s experiencing
  • Help her understand what this emotional distance represents
  • Don’t turn it into avoidance — show it as movement

When you’re ready, compare your answer to mine.

Exercise 1.2

Now we deepen Mira’s situation.

This time, the cards are:

The Six of Swords + The Star + The Eight of Cups

Explore:

  • What is she moving away from emotionally?
  • What kind of healing is taking place?
  • How does this transition continue?

Write your answer, then compare it to mine.

Exercise 2

📧 Fictional Client Email — Daniel

Hi,

I’ve recently made a decision, but I’m still adjusting to it.

I left a job I had been in for several years. It wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t something I wanted to stay in long-term. The decision itself felt clear when I made it. But now that I’m out of it, I feel… in between. Not fully relieved, not fully uncertain. Just in a kind of transition.

I’m not regretting the decision, but I also don’t feel like I’ve “arrived” anywhere yet. It’s like I’ve left something behind, but I haven’t fully stepped into what comes next.

I guess my question is: is this normal, or did I move too soon?

– Daniel

💬 Looking at the Bigger Picture

Daniel is not in the wrong place.

He’s in the middle.

The Six of Swords often appears when:
👉 the past has been left
👉 but the future is not fully formed yet

As a reader, your role is to help him understand:
👉 that this in-between space is part of the process
👉 not a sign of mistake

🎯 Your Exercise:

You draw The Six of Swords for Daniel.

Write a response that:

  • acknowledges the transition he’s in
  • helps him understand what this phase represents
  • avoids turning it into doubt or urgency

Then compare it to my answer.

Exercise 2.2

Now we expand Daniel’s reading:

The Six of Swords + The Two of Wands + The Page of Pentacles

Explore:

  • What is opening up ahead of him?
  • How does this transition lead into something new?
  • What kind of next step is available here?

Write your answer, then compare it.

Closing the Six of Swords Exercises

The Six of Swords reminds us that moving on is not always loud.

Sometimes it is quiet, gradual, and almost unnoticed — until one day, you realize you are no longer where you once were.

These exercises show how often people question that movement, when in reality, it is already happening.

As a reader, your role is to help them recognize it.
