Introduction

The Seven of Swords is a card of indirect behavior, hidden motives, and situations where not everything is being handled openly.

It can show up as:

  • avoidance instead of honesty
  • actions that don’t fully match words
  • or a sense that something is happening “behind the scenes”

This doesn’t always mean clear deception.

Sometimes it reflects:

  • self-protection
  • fear of confrontation
  • or someone choosing the easier path instead of the honest one

In these exercises, you’ll work with situations where your client is not dealing with obvious conflict — but with uncertainty around what is actually true.

Your role as a reader is to help them:
👉 recognize what feels off
👉 understand where clarity is missing
👉 and decide how to respond without jumping to conclusions

Exercise 1

📝 Fictional client email:

Hi,

I’m trying to figure out how I feel about something, but I keep going back and forth.

There’s someone I’ve been involved with, and on the surface, everything seems fine.

We talk regularly, spend time together, and nothing has happened that I can clearly point to as “wrong.”

But at the same time, I have this underlying feeling that something isn’t fully clear.

There are small things.

Sometimes plans change last minute.
Sometimes I feel like I don’t get the full picture of what’s going on in their life.
Sometimes their words and actions don’t fully line up.

It’s nothing obvious enough to confront.

But it’s enough that I notice it.

And now I don’t know if I’m picking up on something real… or if I’m overthinking things that don’t actually matter.

I don’t want to accuse someone of something unfairly.

But I also don’t want to ignore a feeling that keeps coming back.

So I guess my question is: is there something I’m not seeing clearly here?

– Lena

💬 Let’s look at what’s happening here:

Lena is not dealing with a clear event.

She’s dealing with a pattern of subtle inconsistency.

The Seven of Swords often appears exactly here:
👉 when nothing is obviously wrong
👉 but something doesn’t feel fully right either

As a reader, your role is not to jump to conclusions.

It’s to help her understand:
👉 what this kind of pattern usually reflects
👉 and how to approach it with awareness

🎯 Your Exercise:

For this reading, you draw The Seven of Swords.

Write your response to Lena as if you were answering her professionally.

  • Acknowledge the subtle nature of her concern
  • Help her understand what this kind of inconsistency can mean
  • Avoid making direct accusations, but don’t dismiss the pattern

When you’re ready, compare your answer to mine.

Exercise 1.2

Now we deepen Lena’s situation.

This time, the cards are:

The Seven of Swords + The Moon + The Page of Swords

Explore:

  • Where does uncertainty come from?
  • What is being sensed vs. what is actually known?
  • How can she approach this without becoming reactive or suspicious?

Write your answer, then compare it to mine.

Exercise 2

📧 Fictional Client Email — Stefan

Hi,

I’m dealing with something at work that I’m not sure how to interpret.

There’s a colleague I work closely with, and lately I’ve noticed a few things that feel… off.

Information isn’t always shared clearly. I sometimes find out about decisions after they’ve already been made. And occasionally, I get the feeling that conversations are happening without me that directly affect my work.

Nothing has been openly said or done that I can point to as a clear problem.

But there’s a sense that I’m not fully included in what’s going on.

I don’t know if this is intentional, or just a result of how things are being handled.

I also don’t want to create unnecessary tension by bringing it up if I’m misreading the situation.

So I guess my question is: is this something I should be paying closer attention to, or am I overinterpreting normal workplace dynamics?

– Stefan

💬 Looking at the Bigger Picture

Stefan is not dealing with open conflict.

He’s dealing with partial information.

The Seven of Swords often appears in environments where:
👉 communication is not fully transparent
👉 and not everyone is operating with the same level of awareness

As a reader, your role is to help him understand:
👉 what this kind of dynamic looks like
👉 and how to navigate it without jumping to conclusions

🎯 Your Exercise:

You draw The Seven of Swords for Stefan.

Write a response that:

  • acknowledges the subtle exclusion he’s noticing
  • helps him understand what this dynamic may reflect
  • guides him without pushing him into confrontation

Then compare it to my answer.

Exercise 2.2

Now we expand Stefan’s reading:

The Seven of Swords + The Three of Pentacles + The King of Pentacles

Explore:

  • How does this dynamic affect collaboration?
  • What kind of structure or clarity is missing?
  • How can he position himself more securely within this environment?

Write your answer, then compare it.

Closing the Seven of Swords Exercises

The Seven of Swords reminds us that not everything unclear is dramatic — but it is still significant.

These exercises show how often people sense that something is not fully aligned, even when they can’t immediately explain why.

As a reader, your role is to help them trust that awareness — without turning it into assumption.

If you’d like to receive a reading like this for your own situation — one that helps you understand what may not be immediately visible — you’re welcome to book a personal session at www.empowering-spirit.com.
