Introduction

The Four of Wands is a card of stability, celebration, and shared space.

Something has come together. A connection feels real, a situation settles, or a milestone is reached that brings a sense of relief and grounding.

But this card doesn’t always show up in obvious “perfect” moments.

Sometimes it appears when things are finally going well — and the person receiving the reading doesn’t quite know how to trust that yet.

Sometimes it appears when something is worth appreciating… even if it’s not permanent.

In these exercises, you’ll practice reading for moments where something is working — and your role is to help your client recognize, receive, and understand that stability without taking it for granted or overcomplicating it.

Exercise 1

📝 Fictional client email:

Hi,

I feel a bit strange even writing this, because for once this isn’t about something going wrong.

Things are actually… good?

I’ve been seeing someone for a few months now, and it’s been easy in a way I’m not used to. No mixed signals, no guessing games. We make plans and actually keep them. We talk openly. It feels stable.

And yet, I keep waiting for something to shift.

I catch myself overthinking small things, like if they take a bit longer to reply or if a conversation isn’t as lively as usual. It’s like part of me is expecting something to go wrong, even though nothing really has.

I don’t want to ruin this by overanalyzing it, but I also don’t know how to just relax into it.

So I guess my question is… is this actually as solid as it feels, or am I missing something?

– Elena

💬 Let’s look at what’s happening here:

Elena isn’t dealing with a lack of connection.

She’s dealing with the unfamiliar feeling of something being stable.

The Four of Wands often shows up exactly here — when something is working, but the person hasn’t fully adjusted to that reality yet.

As a reader, your role is not to create doubt where there isn’t any — but also not to ignore her underlying anxiety.

You’re helping her:
👉 recognize what is real
👉 and understand why it feels so strange

🎯 Your Exercise:

For this reading, you draw The Four of Wands.

Write your response to Elena as if you were answering her professionally.

  • Acknowledge the stability she’s experiencing
  • Address her fear without feeding it
  • Help her understand what this moment actually represents

When you’re ready, compare your answer to mine.

Exercise 1.2

Now we deepen Elena’s situation.

This time, the cards are:

The Four of Wands + The Nine of Swords + The Page of Pentacles

Explore:

  • Where is her anxiety coming from?
  • How can she ground herself in what’s real?
  • What helps her stay present instead of spiraling?

Write your answer, then compare it to mine.

Exercise 2

📧 Fictional Client Email — Sophie

Hi,

I’m writing because something has recently changed in my life, and I’m not sure how to feel about it yet.

After a long period of instability, I finally moved into my own place. It’s not huge, but it’s mine. For the first time in a while, I feel like I have some kind of foundation again.

At the same time, it feels a bit… quiet.

I used to always be in motion — different places, different people, constant change. Now everything has slowed down.

Part of me really appreciates it. Another part of me is wondering if I’ve somehow limited myself.

I worked hard to get here, but now I’m asking myself: is this where I’m meant to stay, or is this just a temporary stop?

– Sophie

💬 Looking at the Bigger Picture

Sophie reached something important:
👉 stability
👉 independence
👉 a sense of “this is mine”

But instead of fully settling into it, she’s questioning it.

This is another expression of the Four of Wands.

As a reader, your role is to help her understand:
👉 what this phase actually represents
👉 and whether this stability is an end point… or a foundation

🎯 Your Exercise:

You draw The Four of Wands for Sophie.

Write a response that:

  • acknowledges what she has built
  • addresses her uncertainty without dismissing it
  • helps her understand the purpose of this phase

Then compare it to my answer.

Exercise 2.2

Now we expand Sophie’s reading:

The Four of Wands + The Empress + The Ten of Cups

Explore:

  • What is she growing into here?
  • What does fulfillment look like in this phase?
  • How does this stability support her emotionally?

Write your answer, then compare it.

Closing the Four of Wands Exercises

The Four of Wands reminds us that stability is not something to question — it’s something to recognize.

These exercises show how often people reach a good place and then hesitate to fully trust it. As a reader, your role is to help them see what they’ve built, and to understand whether they’re meant to hold onto it, grow within it, or simply appreciate it for what it is.
