Temperance: Practical Tarot Exercises
Temperance — Exercises Section
Introduction
Temperance is the card of harmony, healing, and the art of blending opposites. It’s where fire and water meet, where contradictions can coexist, and where patience becomes power.
In a reading, Temperance often comes when life feels messy or divided. Instead of demanding quick fixes, it teaches us to pause, breathe, and find the middle path — the one that brings peace instead of extremes.
How these exercises work
Just like before, you’ll be working with fictional client emails — the kind of messages professional readers receive every day. Alongside each one, I’ll give you a set card or spread to start from.
Your task is to step into the role of the tarot reader and write a thoughtful reply. When you’re done, you can open my example answer hidden in the spoiler.
Remember, though — you’re never limited to the cards I assign here. These fictional emails can be reused as practice prompts again and again. Pull a single random card, try a three-card spread, or even a full Celtic Cross — and see how the story changes.
Exercise 1
📝 Fictional client email:
Hi,
My name is Zoe. I just had a huge fight with my sister, and honestly, I don’t even know how it got this bad. We were close for years, but lately, every small disagreement explodes into something bigger. We’re both stubborn, and I don’t know if we can fix this or if I should just give up on the relationship.
Can the cards show me if there’s any hope?
— Zoe

Exercise 2
📧 Fictional Client Email — Marcus
Hello,
I’m Marcus, and I’m in a weird place with my career. I’ve been doing the same job for eight years — it’s stable and pays the bills, but I feel drained and uninspired. Part of me wants to quit and try something completely different, maybe something creative. Another part of me is terrified of losing stability and making the wrong choice.
I feel like I’m torn in two directions, and I don’t know how to find clarity. What do the cards say?
Thank you,
Marcus

Closing the Temperance Exercises
Temperance reminds us that life doesn’t have to be lived in extremes. It’s not always about “all or nothing.” More often, it’s about weaving together what seems opposite until it creates something harmonious and new.
Remember: you can reuse these fictional emails anytime you like. Pull one card, three, or a Celtic Cross — each time, you’ll discover new ways Temperance speaks to patience, harmony, and healing.
