Pick a Pile: What is your soul quietly asking for?
There are moments when life becomes so busy that we stop hearing ourselves. The days fill with responsibilities, conversations, deadlines, and expectations. We become very good at answering everybody else’s questions while quietly forgetting to ask one of our own. “What do I actually need?”
Not what looks impressive. Not what makes the most sense on paper. Not what everybody else hopes you’ll choose. The quieter question. The honest one.
Sometimes the answer has been waiting patiently for a long time. It doesn’t shout. It doesn’t demand attention. It simply returns, again and again, in those quiet moments when your mind finally settles. A dream that refuses to disappear. A longing you keep postponing. A part of yourself that’s still standing gently at the door, hoping one day you’ll invite it back in.
I like to think of that as the voice of the soul. Not something outside of you. The deepest part of you that already knows what brings you peace, what helps you grow, and what makes life feel meaningful.
That’s what this Pick-A-Pile reading is about.
We’re going to explore what your soul is quietly asking for right now, why that message keeps returning, and what beautiful change may begin once you finally make room for it.
Take a moment to look at the piles in front of you and notice which one draws your attention first. There’s no need to force the choice. The quietest messages often find us before we have the chance to overthink them.

Pile 1 (Rabbit)
Pile 1 – Five of Cups
What your soul is quietly asking for is permission to grieve. It knows that’s how you finally leave it behind.
There are losses we acknowledge almost immediately. We cry, we talk about them, we slowly begin putting the pieces back together.
Then there are the quieter losses. The relationship that never became what you hoped it would. The version of yourself you had to leave behind. The dream that slowly slipped away without anyone noticing. The years that felt harder than they should have. The apology that never came. The life you imagined but never got the chance to live.
Those losses often remain inside us because life keeps moving. There is work to do, people to take care of, responsibilities waiting, and before long we convince ourselves that carrying on is the same thing as healing.
The Five of Cups gently reminds us that those are two different things.
When I look at this card, I don’t see someone who’s being asked to hold on to sadness. I see someone who’s been strong for a very long time. Perhaps too long.
Your soul seems to be saying, “You don’t have to be the strong one for a little while.”
You’re allowed to admit that something hurt. You’re allowed to miss what could have been. You’re allowed to cry over something that happened years ago if your heart never truly had the chance to process it. That isn’t moving backwards. It’s finally giving your heart the time it needed all along.
The interesting thing about grief is that it asks for our attention one way or another. We can make room for it willingly, or it quietly follows us into new chapters of life, showing up in places where it doesn’t belong. It appears as unexplained sadness, unexpected anger, fear of trusting again, or the strange feeling that a part of us is still standing in a chapter we’ve already left.
Your soul doesn’t want that for you anymore. It wants freedom. By allowing yourself to feel what happened completely, knowing that feelings don’t last forever when they’re finally given room to breathe.
The Five of Cups is often misunderstood as a card of loss. To me, it’s also a card of healing. Because the moment we stop running from our grief is often the moment our heart quietly begins stitching itself back together.
I have a feeling that’s what your soul has been asking for. Not more strength. Not more endurance. Just one honest season where you finally allow yourself to mourn what deserved to be mourned.
Because on the other side of that grief isn’t more sadness. It’s peace. 🤍
Pile 2 (Turtle)
Pile 2 – The Sun
What your soul is quietly asking for is permission to be happy again.
Perhaps that sounds almost too simple. Yet I have a feeling you’ve spent so much time surviving that you’ve almost forgotten what it feels like to simply enjoy being alive.
The Sun doesn’t arrive with another lesson to learn or another mountain to climb. It arrives with a gentle question. “When was the last time you laughed so hard that you completely forgot your worries?” Because only then, for a little while, your problems no longer have your full attention.
When I look at this card, I don’t think your soul is asking you to ignore reality or pretend everything is perfect. It’s asking for balance.
There has been enough seriousness. Enough responsibility. Enough carrying the weight of tomorrow before tomorrow has even arrived. Your soul is longing for moments that exist for no other reason than joy itself. A spontaneous day trip. An evening that ends in laughter. Music turned up a little louder than usual. A walk in the sunshine with nowhere particular to be. The kind of moments that don’t solve every problem, yet somehow remind you that life is still beautiful while you’re solving them.
I also have the feeling your soul is asking you to stop postponing happiness. Sometimes we quietly make a deal with ourselves.
“I’ll relax once everything is finished.”
“I’ll enjoy life when this difficult chapter is over.”
“I’ll allow myself to be happy after I’ve achieved one more thing.”
The difficult part is that life keeps creating new chapters. If happiness is always waiting for the next one, it never quite arrives.
The Sun gently says, “You don’t have to earn every smile.”
You are allowed to laugh before every problem has been solved. You are allowed to enjoy today without feeling guilty about tomorrow. You are allowed to create memories that have nothing to do with productivity or responsibility. Perhaps that’s the message your soul has been trying to place in your heart all along.
It’s time to step back into the light. Because you’ve already spent enough time carrying the shadows.
The Sun reminds us that healing isn’t only found in processing pain.
It’s also found in collecting joyful moments until they slowly begin to outweigh the difficult ones. I have a feeling your soul is ready for that chapter. For more laughter. More lightness. More beautiful memories. More mornings where you wake up excited about the day ahead.
In other words…
It’s time to let happiness have a seat at your table again. ☀️💛
Pile 3 (Elephant)
Pile 3 – Six of Cups
What your soul is quietly asking for is to reconnect with your roots.
Life has a curious way of always pulling us forward. There are new goals to chase, new responsibilities to carry, new places to be. Before we know it, months turn into years, and the people and places that once shaped us slowly drift into the background.
The Six of Cups gently turns your attention in the opposite direction. There’s something valuable waiting for you there.
When I look at this card, I don’t see nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. I see your soul asking you to remember where you came from.
Perhaps it’s been a long time since you called an old friend. Perhaps there’s a family member you’ve been meaning to visit. Perhaps there’s a place from your childhood that still feels like home whenever you think about it. Or perhaps there was once a version of yourself who laughed more easily, dreamed more freely, and found joy in wonderfully simple things. Your soul hasn’t forgotten that person.
I also think this card reminds us that our past isn’t only made up of painful memories. Sometimes we become so focused on everything we’ve had to overcome that we overlook the beautiful moments that shaped us as well. The people who believed in us. The afternoons that seemed endless. The traditions that made us feel safe. The conversations that still make us smile years later.
Those memories aren’t asking you to go backwards. They’re asking you to carry their warmth with you.
There is another feeling that comes with this card. Gratitude.
Taking a moment to appreciate the people who walked beside you before life became so busy. Reaching out simply to ask how they’re doing. Sitting around a table with family without looking at the clock. Telling somebody from your past that they mattered more than they probably realized. Those moments have a quiet kind of magic.
The Six of Cups suggests that your soul isn’t longing for a different life. It’s longing for deeper connection. Connection with the people who know your story. Connection with the memories that still make your heart feel at home. Connection with the parts of yourself that have always been there beneath every new chapter.
Perhaps that’s the invitation waiting for you today. Call the old friend. Visit your family. Walk through a place that still carries happy memories. Share an old story and laugh until it feels like no time has passed at all. Because sometimes the most beautiful way to move forward isn’t by running faster.
Sometimes it’s by looking back with gratitude, gathering the love that’s always been there, and carrying it with you into everything that’s still to come. 🤍
