Introduction
The Eight of Wands is a card of movement, acceleration, and momentum.
Something that was previously slow, unclear, or held back begins to move quickly. Communication increases, decisions happen faster, and situations that felt stuck suddenly shift.
This can feel exciting.
It can also feel overwhelming.
Because when things move this fast, people often ask:
- Is this real, or is it just a phase?
- Should I act quickly, or slow things down?
- Am I in control of this, or just being carried by it?
In these exercises, you’ll work with situations where the pace has changed — and your role is to help your client understand what this movement actually means, and how to navigate it without losing clarity.
Exercise 1
📝 Fictional client email:
Hi,
I’m a bit confused about what’s happening right now, because things have suddenly picked up in a way I didn’t expect.
I’ve been talking to someone casually for a while. It was slow at first, not very consistent, nothing too serious.
But over the past couple of weeks, everything has changed.
We’re texting all the time, making plans, seeing each other more often. It feels like it went from “maybe something” to “this is actually becoming something” almost overnight.
And while part of me is excited, another part of me is a bit… thrown off.
I’m not used to things moving this quickly.
I don’t know if this is just momentum that will burn out, or if this is something that’s genuinely building into something real.
I also don’t want to get carried away and lose my sense of balance.
So I guess my question is: is this something I should trust and go with, or should I slow things down?
– Julia
💬 Let’s look at what’s happening here:
Julia isn’t dealing with uncertainty because nothing is happening.
She’s dealing with speed.
The Eight of Wands often appears when a situation shifts from slow to fast — and that shift can feel just as destabilizing as stagnation.
As a reader, your role is not to stop the movement — but to help her understand:
👉 what kind of momentum this is
👉 and how to stay grounded while it unfolds
🎯 Your Exercise:
For this reading, you draw The Eight of Wands.
Write your response to Julia as if you were answering her professionally.
- Acknowledge the sudden shift in pace
- Help her understand what this acceleration represents
- Don’t rush her, but don’t slow the energy unnecessarily
When you’re ready, compare your answer to mine.

Exercise 1.2
Now we deepen Julia’s situation.
This time, the cards are:
The Eight of Wands + The Knight of Wands + The Two of Cups
Explore:
- What kind of energy is driving this acceleration?
- Is this passion, impulse, or something mutual?
- How does this develop if both stay aligned?
Write your answer, then compare it to mine.

Exercise 2
📧 Fictional Client Email — Leon
Hi,
I’m in a situation where everything seems to be happening at once, and I’m not sure how to handle it.
Over the past month, I’ve had multiple opportunities come in — job offers, projects, new contacts. It’s like everything I’ve been working toward is suddenly opening up.
At first, it felt exciting. But now it’s starting to feel overwhelming.
I don’t know which direction to prioritize. I don’t want to miss out on something important, but I also don’t want to spread myself too thin.
I’ve always wanted things to move forward, but now that they are, I feel like I can’t keep up with everything.
So I guess my question is: how do I handle this without making the wrong choice or burning out?
– Leon
💬 Looking at the Bigger Picture
Leon is experiencing overflow.
Not lack. Not delay.
But multiple things moving forward at the same time.
This is another expression of the Eight of Wands.
As a reader, your role is to help him understand:
👉 that this momentum is real
👉 but also how to navigate it without losing direction
🎯 Your Exercise:
You draw The Eight of Wands for Leon.
Write a response that:
- acknowledges the opportunities without overwhelming him
- helps him understand what this phase represents
- gives him a sense of direction without forcing a decision
Then compare it to my answer.

Exercise 2.2
Now we expand Leon’s reading:
The Eight of Wands + The Ace of Pentacles + The Seven of Cups
Explore:
- Which opportunities are real and grounded?
- Where does confusion or overload come in?
- How does he choose clearly?
Write your answer, then compare it.

Closing the Eight of Wands Exercises
The Eight of Wands reminds us that movement is not always the problem.
Sometimes, it’s the speed of it.
These exercises show how often people find themselves overwhelmed not by lack, but by sudden expansion.
As a reader, your role is to help them move with that energy — without losing clarity, direction, or themselves.
