Introduction

The Three of Wands is movement — but not the loud kind.

Something has already been set in motion. A decision has been made, a step has been taken, and now comes the part many people underestimate: waiting for results.

This card often appears when someone has done “the right thing”… but hasn’t yet seen the outcome. And that’s where doubt begins to creep in.

Was it the right choice?
Should I have done more?
Did I miss my chance?

In these exercises, you’ll work with situations where the first step is already behind us — and your role as a reader is to help your client understand what’s unfolding beyond what they can see right now.

Exercise 1

📝 Fictional client email:

Hi,

I actually don’t even know what I’m expecting you to tell me… I think I just need some kind of confirmation that I didn’t mess this up.

About two months ago, I finally told someone how I feel about them. It took me forever to get there, but I did it. I didn’t make it a huge dramatic thing, just… honest.

They didn’t reject me. But they didn’t exactly jump in either.

Since then, we’ve stayed in contact. It’s not awkward, which is good. Sometimes it even feels like things are slowly getting closer. But then there are days where it feels like nothing is happening at all.

And I can’t tell if this is just how things naturally develop… or if I’ve basically put myself in a position where I’m waiting for something that’s never really going to come.

I keep thinking: at least I said it. At least I know I tried.

But now I don’t know what I’m supposed to do with that.

Did I open a door… or am I just standing in front of it by myself?

– Mira

💬 Let’s look at what’s happening here:

Mira already did what many people avoid.

She acted. She expressed herself. She took the risk.

Now she’s in that very specific space where:
👉 something has shifted
👉 but the outcome hasn’t fully revealed itself yet

This is exactly where the Three of Wands lives.

As a reader, your role here is not to push for action again — she already acted.
Your role is to help her understand:
👉 what kind of phase she is in
👉 and whether this “waiting” is part of the process… or a sign in itself

🎯 Your Exercise:

For this reading, you draw The Three of Wands.

Write your response to Mira as if you were answering her professionally.

  • Acknowledge that she already took a step
  • Help her understand what this waiting phase means
  • Don’t leave her stuck, but don’t rush the situation either

When you’re done, compare your answer to mine below.

Exercise 1.2

Now we deepen Mira’s situation.

This time, the cards are:

The Three of Wands + The Knight of Cups + The Seven of Pentacles

Take the same scenario and explore:

  • What kind of response is coming toward her?
  • Why does it feel slow or inconsistent?
  • What is she meant to do while waiting?

Write your answer, then compare it to mine.

Exercise 2

📧 Fictional Client Email — Karim

Hi,

I made a pretty big decision recently and I’m still trying to figure out if it was the right one.

I left my old job about three months ago to start working for myself. It wasn’t impulsive — I had been thinking about it for a long time, saving money, planning things out.

At first, it felt exciting. Like I finally did something for myself.

But now that I’m in it… it’s different.

Things are moving, but slowly. Some days I feel like I’m on the right path. Other days I start questioning everything.

I keep checking if I’m doing enough, if I should be pushing harder, if I made a mistake leaving something stable behind.

I don’t regret it exactly… but I also don’t feel as confident as I thought I would.

I guess I just want to know: am I actually building something here, or am I going to look back at this and realize I misjudged everything?

– Karim

💬 Looking at the Bigger Picture

Karim already took the leap.

He didn’t just think about it — he acted.

Now he’s in the part nobody talks about:
👉 when effort is happening
👉 but results are still catching up

This is another face of the Three of Wands.

As a reader, your role here is to help him understand:
👉 what kind of phase he is in
👉 and whether this slow movement is natural… or a warning

🎯 Your Exercise:

You draw The Three of Wands for Karim.

Write a response that:

  • acknowledges the step he already took
  • addresses his doubt without feeding it
  • helps him understand what this phase actually represents

Then compare it to my answer.

Exercise 2.2

Now we expand Karim’s reading:

The Three of Wands + The King of Pentacles + The Eight of Wands

Explore:

  • What is he building toward?
  • How does success develop here?
  • When does movement accelerate?

Write your answer, then compare it.

Closing the Three of Wands Exercises

The Three of Wands teaches us that action is only the beginning.

After the decision comes the phase where nothing looks dramatic — but everything is quietly unfolding.

These exercises show how often people begin to doubt themselves after they’ve done the hard part. As a reader, your role is to help them understand whether they’re waiting for something real… or holding onto something that isn’t responding.
