The Chariot — Exercises Section
Introduction
The Chariot is the card of determination, direction, and victory. It’s about taking the reins, choosing your path, and moving forward with focus and courage. When it appears, it signals both motion and mastery — not just speed for its own sake, but the ability to align opposing forces and steer them toward your goal.
How these exercises work
In every practice section, you’ll find a fictional client email — the kind of question real querents often send. Alongside it, I’ll give you a set card (or three-card combination) to use as a starting point.
Your task is to write a reply as if you were the professional tarot reader. When you’re ready, you can open the spoiler to see how I might have answered. My examples aren’t “the correct” interpretations (tarot doesn’t work that way), but they give you something to compare with so you can calibrate your style.
Of course, you don’t have to stick with my given cards. You can return to these emails anytime and:
- Pull a single random card,
- Try three random cards, or
- Lay out a full Celtic Cross —
…and then explore how the reading changes. The emails themselves become a reusable deck of practice prompts you can keep coming back to.
Exercise 1
📝 Fictional client email:
Hi, my name is Jordan. I’ve been stuck in the same job for five years now. It pays the bills, but it feels like I’m just going through the motions. I have dreams of starting something of my own, but every time I think about it, fear holds me back. I don’t know if I’m strong enough to really go after what I want.
💬 What’s happening here:
This is the Chariot’s voice exactly — the tension between staying put and charging forward into your own path.
🎯 Your Exercise (set card for comparison): Imagine you’ve drawn The Chariot.
Dear Jordan,
Thank you for your message. The card I drew for you is The Chariot, and it speaks straight to your heart.
The Chariot tells me that you are strong enough — but that strength won’t come from waiting until the fear is gone. It comes from choosing a direction and deciding, “This is where I’m going.” The card shows a charioteer steering two powerful horses — each pulling in a different direction. If he doesn’t take the reins, they drag him apart. But when he gathers his will, he channels all their force into momentum.
For you, those horses are safety and fear on one side, and passion and possibility on the other. Both are real. Both are strong. But if you don’t choose, you’ll stay stuck in place.
The Chariot’s gift is this: once you take that first step — whether it’s starting a side project, enrolling in a class, or mapping out a plan — your courage will grow. Momentum itself will feed you. The fear doesn’t vanish overnight, but it shrinks when you prove to yourself, step by step, that you’re capable.
This is your invitation, Jordan: take the reins of your own life. Your dream isn’t foolish — it’s the part of you that’s been whispering, “There’s more for me.” The Chariot confirms that yes, there is — but you must choose to move toward it.
Exercise 1.2
Now imagine you drew three cards for Jordan:
The Chariot + The Ace of Wands + The Six of Swords.
Dear Jordan,
The Chariot, the Ace of Wands, and the Six of Swords together create such a powerful image of your path.
The Chariot says you’re ready to take control of your direction. The Ace of Wands is the spark — a new beginning, the fire of inspiration that lights up when you allow yourself to say “yes” to your passion. And the Six of Swords shows transition: moving away from stagnation into calmer, clearer waters.
This trio tells me that the time to begin is now. The idea you’ve been carrying isn’t random — it’s a true calling. The Ace of Wands says it’s real, and the Six of Swords says you’ll find relief and peace once you begin walking toward it.
Your next step doesn’t have to be dramatic. It just has to be yours. Even a small action — buying the domain name for your business idea, saving your first bit of start-up money, or scheduling time for your project — tells the universe, “I’ve chosen my direction.” Once you do, the road will rise up to meet you.
Exercise 2
📧 Fictional Client Email — Lila
Hello,
I’ve been separated from my partner for about six months. Part of me still loves him, but part of me knows the relationship was going nowhere. I feel pulled in two directions — holding onto the past, or moving forward into the unknown. How do I know which way is right?
Thanks,
Lila
💬 Looking at the Bigger Picture:
The Chariot isn’t just about speed — it’s about choosing a direction when your heart feels split.
🎯 Your Exercise (set card for comparison): Imagine you’ve drawn The Chariot.
Dear Lila,
Thank you for your honesty. The card that appeared for you is The Chariot, and it speaks directly to the crossroads you’re standing at.
The Chariot shows two horses pulling in opposite directions — one representing your longing for what was, the other representing your desire for what could be. Right now, you’re caught between them, and it’s exhausting.
This card doesn’t say, “Choose quickly.” It says, “Choose consciously.” The power here lies not in what your ex does or doesn’t do, but in your decision to guide your own future.
If you decide to let go, the Chariot assures you that momentum will carry you forward into new experiences, and your heart will heal faster than you expect. If you choose to try again, then do it fully — not halfway, not waiting for him to change, but by committing with clarity to what you want from that love.
Either way, Lila, the Chariot says you will not stay stuck. Once you set your direction, the universe will rise up to carry you forward.
Exercise 2.2
Now let’s see how Lila’s reading shifts when three cards appear:
The Chariot + The Two of Cups + Death.
Dear Lila,
The Chariot, the Two of Cups, and Death together bring a message of truth and transformation.
The Chariot shows your inner tug-of-war. The Two of Cups tells me that love and connection are still here — the bond is real. But Death shows that something in this relationship must end before anything new can begin. This could mean the relationship itself has reached its final chapter, or it could mean that the old patterns and dynamics between you need to die so something healthier can be reborn.
The Chariot’s role here is clear: you cannot ride forward while clinging to both directions. You must decide — to close the book fully and make space for new love, or to transform this relationship into something very different from what it was.
The good news? Either path leads to freedom. The Chariot says that once you take the reins, you’ll stop feeling torn and start feeling powerful again.
Closing the Chariot Exercises
That’s the end of our Chariot exercises. This card reminds us that life moves when we choose. We cannot always control every circumstance, but we can choose our direction — and that choice unlocks our strength.
Remember: you can always return to these fictional emails and reuse them however you like. Pull one random card, three random cards, or a full spread — then compare the story with the examples I’ve given. Each time, you’ll hear the Chariot’s voice in new ways.
